The Microbiology and Pathology Laboratory comprises nine groups:

The Laboratory of Microbiology and Pathology is the leading laboratory in Latvia for the diagnosis of infectious agents of animal diseases, including zoonoses, as well as microbiological testing of water, food, cosmetics and environmental samples, and detection of genetically modified organisms in food products and animal feed. Antimicrobial resistance testing also plays an important role in the work of the laboratory.
The Laboratory of Microbiology and Pathology performs a number of national delegated reference functions and cooperates with European reference laboratories in the field of infectious animal diseases and food-borne infections, as well as in the research on animal feed and genetically modified organisms.
Researchers and experts from the Laboratory of Microbiology and Pathology regularly participate in the development and implementation of studies of national and international importance.
