The main task of the Information and Data Division is to provide informational support for fisheries science and the sector.
In accordance with the department’s needs, the division ensures data entry, storage, and access, as well as prepares informational reports and summaries with up-to-date/aggregated data on fisheries; the economy of fishing, fish processing, and aquaculture, submitting them to:
European Commission bodies, the Scientific, Technical, and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) and its working and expert groups;
The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission (HELCOM);
National institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Rural Support Service (LAD), the State Environmental Service (VVD), and the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP);
Local governments, public organizations, and entrepreneurs.
The Information and Data Division also ensures the operation of the scientific library.
The library’s collection is developed by accumulating and systematizing publications and documents in the fields of marine and aquatic sciences, fisheries, and aquaculture. The library holds over 20,000 printed and original publications (books, periodicals). A significant part of the collection consists of publications from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and fisheries research institutes of the Baltic Sea countries.
Since 2002, the department’s library has been a member of the European Association of Aquatic Sciences Libraries and Information Centres (EURASLIC) and the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC).
