Based on innovative research methods, the laboratories of the BIOR Institute for Food Safety, Animal Health and the Environment generate actionable knowledge in areas such as public and environmental health, food, fisheries and veterinary medicine. The Institute is the leading centre for research, laboratory testing and knowledge transfer in the Baltics.

Chemistry laboratory

The Chemistry Laboratory is a structural unit of the "BIOR" Institute, which deals with research and analysis of chemical indicators in food products, environmental samples and other objects. The laboratory has the largest range of chromatography and mass spectrometry equipment among the Baltic laboratories, as well as specially qualified scientific and technical personnel.

Laboratory of Microbiology and Pathology

Performs bacteriological examination of clinically sick and deceased animals, birds, fish and bees, as well as determination of resistance to medications of the released bacterial microflora.

Medical laboratory

The medical laboratory performs all types of microbiological tests on human clinical material. There are also unique tests, such as Legionella tests in water and washings, which can only be carried out at BIOR in Latvia.
