The main task of the fish hatcheries “Kārļi” and “Brasla” is to preserve the salmon population in the Gauja River basin. Each hatchery releases approximately 200,000 salmon smolts and fry annually. The hatcheries also breed trout, brook trout, whitefish, grayling, and rainbow trout fry.
