The Fish Resource Research Department includes:
Inland Waters and Fish Stock Reproduction Division
Marine Division
Information and Data Division
The goal of the Fish Resource Research Department is to establish a scientific foundation for the sustainable use of fish resources in Latvian waters, including the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Riga, and inland waters. The department conducts stock assessments and evaluations of internationally regulated fish species, studies non-regulated fish stocks and their status in natural marine and inland waters, assesses the impact of fishing, angling, and environmental conditions on fish stocks and biodiversity, and monitors and evaluates the economic performance of the fishing fleet, fish processing, and aquaculture sectors.
The main task of the Fish Resource Research Department is to implement the Latvian National Fisheries and Aquaculture Data Collection Work Plan, funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), as well as to carry out the Latvian fish resource research agreement concluded with the Ministry of Agriculture. This involves collecting, compiling, and analyzing biological, fisheries, and economic data.
