The main task of the Micro-organism Culture Collection Group is to provide a collection of micro-organism cultures. The micro-organism culture collection is designed to preserve and maintain the biodiversity of pathogenic bacteria. The main purpose of the collection functions is to obtain and preserve pure culture strains for further scientific research, validation of new molecular and biological techniques, training, etc. Bacterial strains isolated from food, feed, environment, veterinary and clinical tests. Isolates from the collection are stored in cryobanks – separate ultra-low temperature freezers at -80oC. More than 25 000 isolates have been preserved to date. The Microorganism Culture Collection identifies a variety of microorganisms – bacteria, mycelia, yeasts – to species using a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.
