On Monday, May 12, the management of the State Scientific Institute BIOR welcomed the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
During the visit, the President was introduced to the daily operations of the institute’s laboratories, their capacities, and research potential. BIOR plays a vital role in implementing the One Health approach in Latvia, particularly in areas such as antimicrobial resistance, wastewater monitoring, and zoonotic disease surveillance.
The President visited both the chemistry and microbiology laboratories, where a wide range of laboratory tests are carried out daily, including wastewater analyses. He showed particular interest in the chemical analyses that provide important epidemiological data on public health indicators, lifestyle patterns, and even the prevalence of narcotic substances.
The President’s visit highlights the institute’s significance in the context of national health and safety, as well as the practical application of science in ensuring public well-being.
