Progress report of the thirteenth (final) period of post-doctoral research project 1.1.1.2/VIAA/2/18/248

15.03.2022

During the 13th period (01.01.2022.-28.02.2022.):

  • Participation in 5 online training courses took place:
    • Introduction to Statistics (Stanford University, USA).
    • Promote your Scientific Results (France, Mines-Télécom Institute).
    • Introduction to Chemistry: Reactions and Ratios (Duke University, USA).
    • Writing in Sciences (Stanford University, USA).
    • Introduction to Chemistry: Structures and Solutions (Duke University, USA).
  • Scientific article entitled Data on the characterization of seaweed, wheat bran and other food processing byproducts as feasible biosorbents was submitted for publication in the journal Data in Brief.
  • A revised review article entitled Magnetic adsorbents for effective removal and recovery of rare earth elements from liquid phase: A systematic and critical review was submitted for publication to the Journal of Chemical Engineering.
  • Three lists of references have been published:
    • Recovery of proteins from potato processing waste.
    • Biosorption of toxic and other metals by peanut-based biosorbents.
    • Utilization/ valorization potato juice (a by-product in starch production).

Lists are available HERE!

Updated information on the progress of the project was published on the website www.biosorption.info
A research visit was taken place to Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (Finland). During the visit, sorption experiments in column mode were carried out, using seaweed Fucus vesiculosus and synthesized copper solution. The concentration of metals in the saturated seaweed and in the filtrates was determined by ICP-MS.
The final report of this project has been prepared and submitted.

The cooperating institution – The State Education Development Agency (SEDA). The duration of the project – 38 months. Total costs – 133 805.88 EUR, of which 85% (113 734.98 EUR) is financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
