Progress report of the ninth period of the post-doctoral research project 1.1.2/VIAA/1/16/204

The ninth stage of Project of European Regional Development Fund “1.1.1.2. “Post-doctoral research aid” “One Health” multidisciplinary approaches for epidemiology and prevention of selected parasitic zoonosis (OMEPPAZ), (1.1.1.2/VIAA/1/16/204)” senior researcher Dr. boil. Gunita Deksne were implementing following actions:

  1. Postdoctoral research results were presented in two major international conferences – the Joint 8th Conference of the Scandinavian-Baltic Parasitology Society and the European College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as the conference “VMF 100 and Veterinary Medicine Science and Practical Issues” organized by the Latvian University of Agriculture. Both of these conferences were likely to bring together the veterinarians from different European countries, which gave the possibility to present the results as poster and oral presentations for field experts.
  2. Further molecular epidemiology studies were done on Cryptosporidium spp. species differentiation and their subtypes in cattle and analysis of epidemiology to identify potential risk factors for cattle depending on the type of housing and other parameters.
  3. Initiated a study on the occurrence of Toxoplasma gondii in wild boar muscle using modern molecular diagnostic methods (magneic-capture) as well as to study the correlation of T. gondii seroprevalence with the presence of T. gondii cells in host tissues.

Cooperation authority is State Education Development Agency. The duration of the project is 36 months. The total cost of the project is EUR 133 806, 85% of which is financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
