Progress report of the first period of the post-doctoral research project 1.1.2/VIAA/1/16/204

During the first stage of Project of European Regional Development Fund “1.1.1.2. “Post-doctoral research aid” “One Health” multidisciplinary approaches for epidemiology and prevention of selected parasitic zoonosis (OMEPPAZ), (1.1.1.2/VIAA/1/16/204)” senior researcher Dr. boil. Gunita Deksne were implementing following actions:

1) Following the conclusion of the agreement, the design of the study was developed in order to achieve representative results on the epidemiological situation of the most important parasitic zoonoses in Latvia. The necessary actions have been taken and the opinion of the BIOR Research Ethics Committee of the Institute (No. 1/11/1/2018) has been obtained, which has given a positive opinion on the research, no violations have been identified, as well as the research is scientifically justified and ethical.

2) A retrospective study is ongoing on the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in the Latvian population and the factors associated with it, and a manuscript about the results are prepared for publishing.

Cooperation authority is State Education Development Agency. The duration of the project is 36 months. The total cost of the project is EUR 133 806, 85% of which is financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
